13 February 2017 Comments Off on Evacuations in North California Travel Warnings
Nearly 190,000 people have been ordered to evacuate in Northern Californa after a hole in a spill way for the Oroville Dam was discovered that could lead to a wave of water rushing over towns causing catastrophic floods.
The damn itself is structurally sound however with more storms looming in the area, the massive hole in the spill way could cause the emergency spill way to collapse and unleash a wall of water onto communities and rivers below.
Cars have been gridlocked getting out of the area. According to residents, what was normally a 20 minute drive has turned into a 2 hour drive.
The mandatory evacuation order remains in place for Butte, Sutter and Yuba counties.
