Hurricane Irma made landfall in south Florida on Sunday 10 September (local time). The powerful and potentially catastrophic storm is forecast to move north near or along Florida’s west coast, before moving inland over the Florida Panhandle and south-western Georgia. Expect hurricane-like conditions, including high winds, heavy rain and storm surges. Authorities are warning that the storm could also impact other parts of the south-eastern United States and the eastern seaboard. States of Emergency have been declared in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama and Virginia to enable the preparation and activation of emergency services, should this become necessary. Many provinces in these states are now without electricity. We advise you monitor local media reports and follow the instructions of local authorities. Disruptions to essential services may occur. Contact your airline or tour operator to check if tourist services have been affected.
