Four Places to Celebrate Australia Day in the U.S

Many Australians are travelling through the U.S at this time of year. Luckily, America has no shortage of Australian-owned, true-blue restaurants and pubs where they can celebrate their national day with a great brew and a delicious slab of grilled meat (and maybe even a meat pie!).

Tuck Shop

The Tuck Shop café, located in New York City’s Lower East Side, is a great little Aussie-style café that, according to co-owner Niall Grant, was influenced by a Cronulla surf shack. There, you can also find a classic Aussie meat pie (which can be hard to come by in the U.S) and a good Australian-style coffee.

Templestowe Pub

Located in Chicago’s Irving Park neighbourhood, the Templestowe Pub is a great place to get a little taste of Australia while in Chicago. Australians are connoisseurs of craft beer – they can’t go past a good local micro-brew! At Templestowe, you’ll find a huge selection of locally sourced craft beers, ranging from the classic to the downright avant-garde. Even if you are one of the uneducated and resilient Australians who thinks all craft beer tastes like Pasito, there will be something there for you.

Gum Tree

Gum Tree is a quaint little Australian-owned café and shop in Hermosa Beach, California. The café, apart from serving fantastic coffee, also serves a number of dishes with very interesting takes on some Australian favourites — they love our squid, but have they ever had a squid taco?

The Australian

The Australian is a bar and restaurant located in midtown Manhattan. As you might expect, they boast a solid collection of some favourite Australian beers, including all four Cooper’s ales.

With the warm atmosphere of an old-school inner city Australian pub, a fantastic menu, and more beer than you can poke a stick at, The Australian is the perfect place to gather up a few mates and celebrate Australia day the proper way!
